The billionaire, owner of Fenty Beauty, and mother to be, Rihanna, hasn’t dropped an album—or any solo music for that matter—since her cult classic ANTI which was released in 2016. And ever since then fans have been practically begging for R9 (her ninth album).
In a recent interview with Vogue, she called ANTI her “best album to this day”. But she also wants to be clear that she’s not trying too hard to top it or one up herself. She said, “I’m looking at my next project completely differently from the way I had wanted to put it out before...It’s authentic, it’ll be fun for me, and it takes a lot of the pressure off.”
In March 2021, the singer also confirmed she would be releasing new music soon as she responded to a fan’s comment on her Instagram post that was celebrating her musical accomplishments. A fan suggested she “celebrate by releasing a song”, to which she replied, "I think I should" with a 'SOON' emoji, before adding "just 1 tho lol".
Rihanna also stated in a previous interview with Vogue in 2019 that the album could be classified as “reggae-infused”, but not your usual reggae vibe. She said, “It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks. Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves.”
All in all, hopefully Rihanna drops this album sooner rather than later. She’s been teasing this release since 2018, and fans will more than likely go crazy when it finally drops (myself included).
