British R&B group FLO (made up of Renée Downer, Jorja Douglas, and Stella Quaresma) have finally released their first project after the success of their debut single ‘Cardboard Box’. The EP has 5 songs, yet it plays like a full length album. Sonically, this is one of the best projects I have heard all year. The songs give a nostalgic, 90’s/2000’s vibe, and they’re super catchy and fun to sing along to.
The vocals on the EP are to die for, and it seems as if the arrangements were very well thought out & put together. ‘Immature’ which is the second and most recent single from the EP, has one of the coolest breakdowns I have heard from a girl group in a while. The blend of the voices, tones, harmonies, and all is angelic to say the least. (Even when they’re singing about being upset with an immature lover.)
The EP has a good mix of break up songs (‘Cardboard Box’, ‘Another Guy’, ‘Immature’), a fun song (‘Summertime’), and a sensual song (‘Feature Me’). My favorite is definitely ‘Feature Me’. I am absolutely obsessed with how they play with the key of the song, and the heavy 90s influences you hear on the track.
Overall, I can not stop listening to ‘The Lead’. When FLO drops more music, I’ll be right here waiting! Listen for yourself whenever music can be steamed, and follow @flolikethis on their socials to stay tuned!
