On Friday, March 25, 2022, rapper Latto (formerly known as Mulatto or Miss Mulatto) released her long awaited second album titled 777. The “B*tch From Da Souf” rapper embodies what it means to be unapologetic and confident on this hard-hitting, melodic, yet in-your-face project.

The opening tracks (777 Pt. 1 & 777 Pt. 2) immediately set the tone for the album with heavy 808s and cocky yet playful bars. But she doesn’t stop there. She goes on to show us her versatility in songs like Sunshine (which features Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino). She raps over a unique, nostalgic beat in “It’s Givin”. And of course, she shows her raunchy, sexual side with tracks like ’Like A Thug” ft. Lil Durk and “Sleep Sleep”. There’s also “Stepper” featuring upcoming rapper Nardo Wick and “Trust No Bitch” that remind listeners of Latto’s rough side.

Not to mention “Wheelie” ft. 21 Savage and “Big Energy” have already made their way into fans’ hearts and up the charts. “Big Energy” (which samples Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy”) is RIAA certified gold, and “Wheelie” has inspired a viral TikTok challenge itself.

Overall, this album proves the Clayton County native knows how to write a catchy hook and deliver lyrical punchlines at the same time. Latto is not afraid to step outside of the box, and she brings a refreshing sound to this new era of rap. She’s blunt and always speaks her mind, and this truly shows through her lyricism and her music. From the beats she spits on to the melodic hooks to the top tier features, this album is a great listen. Latto is definitely making a name for herself and climbing her way to the top of the rap game (no pun intended).
