Kehlani Drops “up at night”, the Third Single From Her Upcoming Album

Earlier today, Grammy nominated Oakland native, Kehlani, released her new single, "up at night”, which features global pop star, Justin Bieber. This is the third single from her upcoming album blue water road which drops April 29th.

As always, Kehlani delivers vivid, storytelling lyrics. This time about reassuring her love interest that her feelings are true and not “calculated”, as she sings in the song. Kehlani also has one of the most clear tones I’ve heard from a female artist in a while, and this is definitely showcased on this track. From the melodic riffs and runs to the background vocals, Kehlani proves once again that she’s a real and raw vocalist.

This song has extreme potential for commercial success. It sounds like something you’d hear while shopping in a department store or something you’d hear playing every top of the hour on the radio. The Justin Bieber feature definitely adds to this. This song is definitely different from the two previous singles from the upcoming album. “altar” and “little story”. It’s much more of a fun, upbeat vibe.

One of the best things about the song (besides the lyrics and vocals) is the instrumentation used on the track/ you can hear guitar, strings, and on the bridge you can even hear this heavy bass line and beatboxing.
