Singer Alex Isley & producer Jack Dine released their debut album Marigold on March 30, 2022. This was a long awaited project as the pair have released several singles over the past two years including “Gone”, “Good & Plenty” featuring Masego, “Mine”, and the remix to “Good & Plenty” with Lucky Daye. And even though this is Isley’s first full length body of work since 2015‘s L U X U R Y, the wait was definitely worth it.

Isley and Dine bring an ethereal, dreamy essence to R&B, and its no different with this album. Listening makes you feel like you’re floating in space. From the airy, light vocals or the subtle but soulful instrumentation, you will definitely enter another universe.

There‘s also something to be said about Isley’s lyricism and the choices she makes as a vocalist. The melodies, dynamics, riffs, and runs are all a part of the story she’s telling, and they truly evoke emotions. Her falsetto is one of the most soothing ones I’ve ever heard. And with her being R&B royalty (the daughter of Ernie Isley), the vocals and musical talents showcased on this album don’t surprise me.

Another one of my favorite things about this project is the percussion and the guitar you can hear on almost every track. Jack Dine has a really cool way of modernizing R&B/Soul, and this has been shown with his previous work with Mac Ayres on songs like “Stay” and “Roses”.

Needless to say, I’ll be listening to this album non-stop for the next few weeks. If you haven’t listened yet, go experience the masterpiece that is Marigold for yourself. And follow @lovealexisley and @jackdine on Instagram & Twitter to stay tuned.
