There Was A Breakup This Week On All American and All American: Homecoming--Let's Talk About It!

Like many viewers across the nation, I tune into both All American and All American: Homecoming every week. I'll admit the sports drama has had me hooked for the past four years, and now I'm obsessed with its HBCU spinoff too. (If you're not caught up, stop reading here.)

This week's episodes have got my head spinning for a particular reason, and I think it's time to talk about it! The main events on All American this week include Liv no longer sponsoring Jen, Wade making a freshman player take the fall for that post he made about Liv on YardYak (unbeknownst to the rest of the characters), and my least favorite---Simone and Jordan breaking up (which allows Spencer and Jordan to make up).

On All American: Homecoming, there's quite a lot to unpack! This is the first episode after it's revealed that Damon and J.R. are in fact brothers, and Damon's birth parents are his adopted dad and J.R.'s mother. So, lots of drama with that situation. Then, Simone deals with the aftermath of her breakup with Jordan, Damon and Thea make their little fling official, and we learn more about this trustee board member who tried to sabotage Amara's career and what she's doing at Bringston. Marcus is also struggling with the news about his old teammate using steroids affecting his reputation and the reputation of Bringston's baseball program.

But let's talk about the elephant in the room: Jordan and Simone's breakup! On both shows, we see that they are growing as individuals and developing close platonic relationships with Laila (Jordan) and Damon (Simone). As an avid watcher, I thought the writers might break the characters up sooner rather than later, but not this soon and not like this. Simone came to visit LA for Bringston's Fall Break and realized how close Laila and Jordan were. She started somewhat of an argument with Jordan about it, which quickly escalated to Simone revealing that she feels that the relationship was too hard to maintain. Towards the end of the episode, we see Jordan reading a letter that Simone left him, confirming that she was breaking up with him. Jordan breaks down and luckily Spencer pops up at the right time and is there to comfort him.

This was such a hard moment for me to watch as someone who watched everything that Jordan and Simone went through (pregnancy, marriage, long-distance, the whole nine)! I love their chemistry and the way that Jordan treated her. The last time that Jordan visited Simone was so beautiful! That dinner date where they danced in the restaurant was so cute, and it gave me hope that their relationship would last longer. It truly seemed that their relationship was ok for now, but the writers tricked us, apparently.

I can't wait to see how things play out for the two of them, especially Simone as she continues to find herself at Bringston. I do really like the irony of the breakup happening right as Damon and Thea make things official (which is a whole other story because I believe their fling is truly a trauma bond). Lots of viewers shipped Damon and Simone. But not only does Damon have a new love interest, Simone and his dynamic has been super awkward since the Chicago trip. In fact, this episode, she refused to tell Damon what was wrong after the breakup when he came to check on her, claiming that they need to find themselves without each other.

While I'm still a bit upset about the breakup, I'll definitely be tuned in to the rest of the season for both All American and All American: Homecoming to see the fate of these characters and all the other ones. Needless to say, the writing on this show is truly underrated. It keeps me on the edge of my seat, and the actors truly dive into every scene and become the characters. Watch it happen every Monday night on the CW or tune in on the CW app the next day for free.
